Throughout history, the arts and artists have been essential in guiding us through difficult and dangerous times like these.

Are you seeking creative strategies for navigating the current landscape? Do you want to connect with creative people in meaningful ways? Do you need an outlet for alllllll of the feeeeeelings? Do you want to bring embodied activities into your work? Or maybe you’re a theatre practitioner who wants to practice and build skills in a community environment?

Join instructor Rachael K Sharp this Spring in a workshop exploring a range of Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) modalities including games, image, newspaper and forum theatre, and Rainbow of Desire. All of these forms are rooted in the practice of dialogue, storytelling, and improvisation. Rachael’s approach also incorporates Somatic Abolition and applied theatre modalities, staying responsive to the people, place, and power dynamics at play.  Applied theatre and Theatre of the Oppressed are the people’s theatre. We will dig into difficult topics and ignite our imaginations to disrupt harm. We will practice mutual aid and interdependent world-building through theatre, playing with the magical and the mundane.

The first 2 weeks of the series will introduce specific modalities. The remaining three weeks we will dive into devising and crafting and “rehearsing for the revolution”.

No previous experience necessary.

5 sessions with an optional public showing on Tuesday, May 12 with other workshop courses.
